Where our story begins…
Our name is inspired by Quinua, a small town in Ayacucho, located in the Andes of Perú, often referred to as “the city of the hands that talk”renowned for its artisans, handmade traditions and picturesque architecture. KINUA Yarns is an expression of our commitment to staying true to the traditions and values of the people of Quinua: to cherish our artisans, planet, and work while capturing the luxury in simplicity.
We find our greatest source of inspiration in color and its vivacity, uniqueness, and ability to evoke emotion. We are committed to ensuring our yarns are sustainably and ethically made; it’s our way of contributing towards the creation of a more equitable world.

Meet the KINUA Family
KINUA is a family-owned company located in Lima born out of Maira’s love for natural fibers and dyeing. Together with her husband Vince, they developed a textile lab where all KINUA yarns are designed and naturally dyed by hand. After retiring, Maira’s father, César, a chemical engineer, joined the team. The three of them continued vigorously researching the alchemy behind natural dyeing, exploring color in all its forms and revaluing and incorporating ancestral techniques in each KINUA product.
The KINUA family is composed of 5 full-time spinners, over 35 hand-knitters, 4 weavers, and more than 5 artisans in charge of recollecting our natural dyeing resources every season. Our approach is rooted in cooperation and equality, Maira shares all of her knowledge on modern textile knitting and weaving techniques while our team shares their knowledge on ancestral, artisanal techniques. Each of our products is the result of this intense collaboration and friendship.
